1 Corinthians 15:51, 52 “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed,” 1 Corinthians 15:51, 52.
There are so many things that God chose to keep hidden in the Old Testament that He later reveals in the New Testament. “Mysteries” if you will. Every time one of these mysteries is revealed to us, we can see more clearly the amazing things God has planned for the believers. In 1 Corinthians 15:52, we first see this truth revealed in Scripture. We learn that those who are alive will be changed. In an instant we will become immortal and no longer corrupted by our flesh. How will this all happen? Extremely quickly! In the “twinkling of an eye” quick! In other words, it will happen in a flash, suddenly. Our transformation into our immortal bodies will not be a slow progressive change, but rather an instantaneous change. A trumpet will herald a new and eternal beginning for those who are in Christ Jesus. In the Old Testament, trumpets were regularly used to herald the beginning of festivals and other significant events. What better way is there for our Lord to signal the beginning of this great event than the blow of a trumpet?
